The End of Summer
There have been a number of signs that summer has left us for this year; apples are appearing in the market, the leaves are starting to fall from the trees, and we have the doonas on the bed. But two things this week have confirmed it for me.
Lake Annecy
We arrived in Annecy in the rain, but on our second day we were rewarded with bright sunshine. Perfect for enjoying a walk along the edge of the lake.
Annecy by Night
Annecy was described to me as beautiful and “tourisitique”, and it lived up to both of these descriptions.
Italian Market
Large rounds of cheese and cured meats are not an uncommon sight in Lyon’s markets, but today they were of the Italian variety.
Strawberries, Strawberries, Everywhere
Since my first wild strawberry discovery earlier in the summer, they seem to have popped up all over the place.
Market Bounty
Wednesday morning. It’s an odd point in the week to look forward to, but Wednesday mornings hold one of my favourite moments of the week.
Poppy Progression
Near the bee nesting boxes in the Parc de la Tête d’Or, there is a field. What first appeared to be an unremarkable patch of grass, has undergone the most amazing transformation over the past few months.
Water Birds in Parc de la Tête d'Or
These water birds in the wetland area of Parc de la Tête d’Or caught my attention recently.
La Fête Nationale Celebrations
This weekend marked La Fête Nationale, or Bastille Day. In Lyon, the celebrations started on Friday afternoon with a military parade, and concluded with fireworks on Saturday night.
Wild Strawberries
It was on an industrial estate that I discovered wild strawberries. They were growing by the road on the edge of a vacant factory lot, hidden amongst a tangle of undergrowth.
