Waking to a Dusting of Snow

We woke this morning to our first snow fall since coming to France. A few flakes of snow have continued to fall during the morning.

A Wintery Parc de la Tête d'Or

Normally a visit to Lyon’s Parc de la Tête d’Or would offer a palette of vivid colours, but not today. The park is feeling bleak and desolate during this bitter winter. The central lake is frozen and the facilities are closed.

Burst Water Pipes

There are numerous burst and overflowing water pipes around Lyon right now. The weeks of constantly below freezing temperatures has stressed many pipes beyond their limits.

Ice on the River Saône

The ice continued to flow down the River Saône this morning. With temperatures predicted to slowly rise in the next week, I expect the ice will disappear soon.

Adjusting to Glacial Temperatures

The French news is calling the recent cold weather glacial. A month ago we were in the middle of the Australian summer with the nights dropping no lower than 19°C in Sydney; now we are experiencing -10°C at night with highs of -4°C during the day.

Following a Dream

From the window of the TGV, we watched the sun set for the first time over our new home. Today is the beginning of a huge change for Megan and me. We are following our dreams and taking a risk or two along the way.

First Snow

It started with a little flurry of flakes that were barely visible through the windows. Within a few hours the snow had started falling continuously. The size of the snow flakes varied during those first few hours but settled as the evening drew in.

Flying the Flag in Tetbury

Tetbury is an English town in the county of Gloucestershire. We stopped for a brief visit on our way back from Westonbirt Arboretum.

Frost

The blanket of morning frost is beautiful.

From Green Bean to Cup

During our visit to Bathurst we were treated to fresh coffee. This was the first time I had seen green coffee beans roasted and transformed into a cup of coffee.
