E-Ink Price Tags

Electronic paper has arrived in our local supermarket. In September, the switch over began. Carrefour began swapping over its liquid crystal display (LCD) price tags with electronic paper equivalents.

The store is now entirely electronic paper priced. The displays are much clearer and carry more detail. I hope they have also reduced Carrefour’s energy and maintenance cost; electronic paper has the wonderful property of not requiring power to display a static image. Once set the price remains visible without draining battery power.

I have fallen in love with electronic paper since getting a Kindle; so seeing this technology slowly appear elsewhere was a treat.
