Glasgow's Gallery of Modern Art
We enjoyed a particularly lazy morning in Glasgow. After enjoying a coffee, we headed to the central Gallery of Modern Art for a couple of hours. The gallery is housed in an elegant 18th Century building, free to the public, and home to an eccentric collection of mostly bright colourful exhibits.
Outside the building is a statue with a traffic cone deliberately placed on the head.
The lobby of the gallery is home to a beautiful view up through the floors above. The metal work of the black railings against the white background is striking.
The gallery is split across floors with a main hall showing larger pieces in presumably temporary exhibits.
There are a few nods to the school groups that are paraded around the gallery.
The exhibits range in style and format, from small paintings to larger sculptures and some more distressing pieces.
Downstairs, below the artwork is a public library. The space is beautiful, calm, and home to a great children’s section – complete with mini house for kids to sit inside and read away from the adults.
