Little Bubbles

News of the latest update to Power Manager is racing around the world. I know because I am watching it unfold before me. The traffic flowing around the DssW web site is placing small bubbles of activity over a map of world. Each bubble representing a page being viewed or an interaction with the web site.

Little bubbles of activity.
Little bubbles of activity.

This morning we launched Power Manager and in the last hour I sent out the customer e-mails. I have been surprised just how quickly those e-mails have gathered a response. There are bubbles appearing across most time zones; surely some section of the world should be asleep.

Updates on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ have been posted. Their traffic is less obvious. I have always preferred to focus on the DssW web site rather than seed content and effort to social sites. We have no control over the social sites and as a company creating content, that makes me wary.

During the next few days, the press release will be published through numerous aggregating sites and services. Once upon a time, a well timed press release would lead to a spike in our web site traffic and substantial publicity. Those days seem to be behind us, at least for press releases related to software. Yet the press release is a useful item and provides a good hook to hang the proverbial hat of a launch upon. It focuses the event’s purpose and provides a line in the sand.

I continue to love crafting and launching products. Those little bubbles on the map are the latest reminder that what I quietly create, can race around the world in moments.
