Garbage Trucks with Lifting Arms

During a former existence, I took an early morning bus to work. This bus ride gave me ample opportunity to gaze out of the window. It was in these early hours I could watch the city’s garbage collectors at work.

In Sydney, and now in Hobart, I have been amazed to see garbage trucks with mechanical arms. The arm is used to scoop up and empty the rubbish bins waiting on the side of the street.

This mechanical arm allows each truck to be operated by just one person and each pick up seems fairly quick – if louder and less delicate than might be pitched.
