Lyon

Parc des Célestins

For four months we lived within a hundred metres of this hidden gem. Only after seeing a programme on arte did we realise what was hidden so close below our feet.

Going to Seed

Where once there was a small field of bright red poppies, now the field has turned to shades of white and grey. The poppies are going to seed.

Less Human

I was lucky. Through asking around on forums I was given a recommendation of an English speaking dentist in Lyon. Dr. Alexandre Baroud’s web site makes no mention of being a polyglot – maybe speaking three languages is not so note worthy here – but he speaks excellent English and is surprisingly used to English speaking patients.

Fireworks and the Crowd

There was little sign of the pushing and shoving of the crowd last night. Getting around in Lyon can often involve moving among crowds of jostling commuters, shoppers, and onlookers.

La Fête Nationale Celebrations

This weekend marked La Fête Nationale, or Bastille Day. In Lyon, the celebrations started on Friday afternoon with a military parade, and concluded with fireworks on Saturday night.

Services Parade

We watched the parade near Foch in Lyon yesterday evening. The parade is part of la Fête Nationale celebrations.

World Bending

Why is the underside of this overpass in Lyon painted like a road? Is it possible they reused a section of road and flipped it over; I suspect not.

Wild Strawberries

It was on an industrial estate that I discovered wild strawberries. They were growing by the road on the edge of a vacant factory lot, hidden amongst a tangle of undergrowth.

Fête de la Musique

Last Thursday marked the World Music Day, Fête de la Musique in French. Megan took the opportunity to make me take a break from work and explore the streets.

Black and Red Insect

Surrounded by so many beautiful scenes to photograph and yet I still get a kick out of photographing the tiny.
