The Rooftops of Lyon
Part of Lyon is built on a steep slope. This provides great opportunities to look out over the rooftops and across the city below.
Drumming Outside Théâtre de Lyon
The sound of crowds and drumming rumbled through the windows this afteroon. Looking out we saw a procession of people led by drummers entering the square in front of Célestins, Théâtre de Lyon.
Touch Parking as a Sport
They park differently here. Differently in a way that causes me to stop, smile, and raise my camera for a souvenir.
Bee Nesting Boxes in Parc de la Tête d'Or
For a while now, the idea of one day keeping bees has been growing in my mind. So, when I caught a passing glimpse of some bee hives in a corner of Parc de la Tête d’Or, I was keen to go back for a closer look.
Sanctuaire Saint Bonaventure
We pass Sanctuaire Saint Bonaventure on our morning runs to the park. It sits starkly positioned next to a shiny glass building. The church is large but feels hemmed in by modern buildings on either side.
Wattle at the Market
Most mornings, a market sets up along the Saône River. The market hosts an array of fresh produce, and right at one end there is a flower stall. I was quite surprised to see buckets of what appear to be wattle at the flower stall this week.
First Signs of Spring
This weekend has brought the first signs of spring in Lyon.
Crypt Below Basilique de Fourvière
The Basilique de Fourvière is an imposing structure overlooking the centre of Lyon. The Basilique is impressive, grand, and is worth visiting.
Moving Lifts
If your apartment does not have lift access and the stairs are narrow, how do you get your furniture in and out? In France, the answer is through the window.
Shadows of the Primatiale
As befits an old European city, Lyon has many religious buildings. Wandering around the city turns up more churches than I can track. The most notable are Primatiale Saint Jean-Baptiste de Lyon and the Basilique Notre Dame de fourvière.
