France

Design Tourism

The exhibit was thrilling but then I love furniture design and history. Something delightful about seeing the original chairs and tables that have now become iconic.

Saint Etienne

Saint Etienne however was not the prettiest French town. It felt functional and had all you could need living locally. It did not feel small either. The buildings and tower blocks appeared to stretch on for some distance.

Vienne

Vienne is a town half an hour south of Lyon. We visited during the summer months arriving and leaving by train. Vienne is one of many towns that line the River Rhône and form a strip of commuter friendly locations to live.

Dijon Highlights

Owls show the way in Dijon and ensure you don’t miss the impressive buildings and sparkling rooftops.

Vichy's Spring Water

Unexpectedly pretty, Vichy has been one of my favourite weekend locations.

Le parcours

What greeted us was great. These young men were practising “le parcours” on the public gym equipment by the river. The men took turns to perform incredible feats of strength and control on the parallel bars.

Geese in the Park

Lyon’s Parc de la Tête d’Or is home to a large flock of geese. They roam the grassed areas. Children are enthralled by them and so too are parents. The parents staying close by waiting for the seemingly inevitable cry of an upset goose.

Le Tour de France in Lyon

As the cyclists appeared over the horizon the crowd surged forward, the police called out to move back, and a sea of camera phones were held up to capture the moment.

Market Cherries

Cherries are back in our local market. They are piled high in mounds of red fruit.

Meringues

Two months since my first significant encounter with the French medical system and I am on the mend. I met with the surgeon this week. He confirmed all is well and progressing nicely. A welcome relief and nice to come away without needing any further appointments.
