Queenstown - A Tasmanian Mining Town
Nothing really prepared us for Queenstown. An hour earlier, we were walking along lush green tracks to waterfalls, then quite suddenly we crested a hill.
Tasmania's tea-coloured water
Local button grass turns Tasmania’s rivers the colour of tea.
Nelson Falls Track
Nelson Falls is a waterfall in Tasmania. This beautiful waterfall is in a National Park, a short walk from the Lyell Highway (A10) between Queenstown and Derwent Bridge.
Tungatinah Hydroelectric Power Station
On our way from Hobart to Strahan, we stopped for lunch at a small park. The park was nestled within a forested valley and opposite one of Tasmania’s hydroelectric power stations.
Reflections on Gordon River
Gordon River is part of a World Heritage site in Tasmania. The river is enclosed in thick forest and a beautiful location a short boat ride from Strahan.
Melbourne's events
One of the things I enjoy about Melbourne is that there is always something to see or a free event to visit. The last few weeks have been particularly good.
Photogenic Melbourne
Melbourne is frequently used for filming. On the weekend we moved here, a feature film had half of Flinders Street covered in a 1940s era facade and the other half in black cloth to hide modern lighting and fittings.
Hobart, Tasmania
A recent wander around Tasmania started and ended in the capital city, Hobart. We spent a day walking around the city visiting various shops, sites, and attractions.
Garbage Trucks with Lifting Arms
In Sydney, and now in Hobart, I have been amazed to see garbage trucks with mechanical arms. The arm is used to scoop up and empty the rubbish bins waiting on the side of the street.
Royal Exhibition Building - Melbourne Open House 2011
With 2011’s Open House weekend we finally got our chance to see inside this incredible building. The building itself is World Heritage listed and continues to be actively used for events.
